Franck - Piano Quintet in F Minor Sc/pts

The 1878/79 composition, oscillating between chamber music intimacy and symphonic sonority, marks the beginning of a series of important late works by Franck. An external reason was on the one hand the successful performance of piano trios from his youth in the 1871 newly founded "Societe nationale de musique", on the other hand presumably a composition competition for an instrumental work of this occupation, whose deadline missed Franck, however. After the cool recording of the work at the premiere in January 1880, the composer's lifetime was heard only a few times. It was only in the 20th century that audiences and critics recognized the quintet as a milestone in French chamber music, which now also adorns the Henle Urtext program.
