Written in 1981 for the painter and musician Rivka Golani, the work was premiered by Rivka Golani (viola) as part of Musique Vivante Paris. A very slow-paced harmony is covered by a precisely defined arpeggio and tremolo technique of the bow, over several continuously vibrating and irregularly moving sound grids in all directions. What resonates through these grids is an extremely complex, extremely fast-moving music that plays simultaneously. There is also a version of the same work for cello (1981). (H. Holliger)
